Piraeus hotels or airbnb

Rick's book lacks suggestions so we're ISO comfortable "local" hotel or airbnb in Piraeus, end of Oct (coming and going on cruise side of port). Lots of sterile airbnb listed but we prefer more Greek ambiance.

Most hotels in Piraeus are located in the ferry port area, rates are often under €70/night outside peak season. Don't expect exceptional comfort, but they do have a Greek ambiance (I've tried a few myself).

One I haven't tried is a recently opened hotel right in front of the metro station: The Port Square Hotel. .If you arrive at Athens Airport, take the metro to Piraeus station, the hotel is right there as soon as you exit the station. However, it’s a walk of over 30 minutes along the quays to reach the cruise terminals.

The Phidias Hotel is located closer to the marina, it offers a free shuttle to drop you off at the cruise port. That side of the harbor has more of a luxury yacht ambiance than a ferry vibe, still Greek, but the "wealthy Greek shipowner" kind of Greek. :-)

They are listed on this map, along with others hotels, the locations of the port gates and other useful info:

A lot depends on budget and how long you are staying.

Most people stay just for the ferry usually for one night so ambiance and "local" atmosphere is not a priority as long as they are clean, safe and in a good location.

I've stayed twice in Piraeus for a ferry.

The two I stayed at are Achillion Hotel and Piraeus city Hotel both within easy walking to the port but also depends on what gate you need for the ferry.

Both are in a nice location, clean and safe and more economical especially Achillion.

I wouldn't hesitate to book either again.
