I am researching Hellenic Seaways ferries to Hydra, in the Saronic Islands area.
Their website indicates I can sign onto the website and download a digital ticket up to an hour in advance.
But I can also pick up a ticket at a travel center. I do not travel with a lap top.
Does that mean, if I get to the Piraeus Port really early, I can pick up a ticket at the Saronic Lines Ticket Office, near Gate 8 & 9.
The Ticket Office is indicated on the Hellenic Seaways website.
I'm pretty analog! Last time I was on a Greek ferry was in 1971!
Absolutely, you can do it the old-fashioned way, like in the 70s, by buying your ticket at the port ticket office. Lots of people still do it that way. You'll get a paper ticket (for a small additional fee of around €1) with the same QR code as if you had the electronic version.
Below is the Street View of Gate E8 with the ticket offices:
If you are staying in central athens and don't want to get to the port "real early" why not stop the night before at a ticket office by your hotel (they are all over central athens) and get your paper ticket. might cost you an extra €, but one less thing to do in AM.
Thank you both for the helpful replies. The street view of the ticket offices, Gate 8, and even a ferry, is brilliant. I like the idea of going to a downtown ticket office the day before, too. My hotel is in the Plaka and I'm sure the front desk can direct me to one.
I'm getting ready to go! Thanks so much.
If you see shops with ferry company signs while walking through the streets, that's where you can buy tickets.
For example, Adrianos Travell in Monastiraki Square:
