We will have limited time in Heraklion and are wondering the time it takes to travel from Heraklion to Phaistos, and if the journey to Phaistos is worth taking. Also, Is the countryside along the way interesting? Thanks in advance.
We cannot give good advice with such scant information -- it's like shots in the dark, a waste of our time and yours. Questions that occur to me: How long is this "limited time" in Heraklion?.... does it also include trips to Knossos and the Herak Museum? Is this "Heraklion stop" part of a longer stay in Crete, or is it just where a cruise happens to end. or part of a multi-island Itinerary. Do you have a rented car, or would you be dependent on KTEL busses or a day tour? Could you have a more relaxed visit if you shortened your stay in other parts of Crete? Is your Phaistos curiosity due to interest & knowledge about Minoan Palaces, or is Phaistos something you saw on a list? This last aspect would have more affect on whether its "worth your time."
About interesting things along the way --- yes, if you stop for them, such as Gortyn (and study up beforehand, or follow byways to vineyards .... otherwise, the road is just fairly level and partly agricultural most of the way... see this map: https://www.explorecrete.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Crete-eot.png
Understood, and thank you.
