overnight trip on our way out of Athens - suggestions?

I just had to cancel our 2 day trip to Hydra because the ferry won't get us back to Athens in time for our flight back to the US.
I have all day Friday and Saturday, returning Sunday AM to spend at a Greek destination that is an easy trip back to Athens to catch a 2pm international flight. Where would you go?

No contest, Napflion, two hour drive from Athens. It is one of my favorite places in Greece and one of the two most beautiful cities there. (The other city is Chania, Crete.)

Nafplion, perfect. This website - http://www.visitnafplio.com/ - will show/tell you all about it, and it's NONcommercial, u can trust its recommendations. This photo album - http://www.flickr.com/photos/stanbr54/sets/72157632094108982/ -- shows highlights & the beauty of the architecture... it is widely considered the MOST beautiful Old Town in Greece. Frankly, Hydra is waaay less interesting -- I was tipped off to Nafplio by an artist on my 1st trip to Greece.... have been back many many times & still make new discoveries.

And if you don't want to bother with driving, you can just take the modern, comfortable (a/c) reserved-seat intercity bus service (called KTEL) ... 2.5 hours, much of it along scenic coastline (ask for LH side seats outbound). fare each way is 13.5E. 1st bus is 8, then 9:30, then hourly on the half-hour outbound, hourly ON the hour inbound, Just taxi (12-13E) from y our central Athens hotel to "Kifissou Terminal". These busses used by all classes of Greeks, including professionals, because of modern highway & equipment.

Greece is Criminally HOT HOT HOT this summer, so book an a/c hotel near the water. If Hotel Agamemmnon has a room left, Seize it!!! VEry good value, the ONLY hotel with balconies directl on the seafront -- but if you're going soon, you may have to search around on Booking.com. Be sure to check hotel/pension locations on Map!! few hotels have pools, but Nafplio has its own little rocky beach, and there's also a wonderful place to swim just beyond the "point" of the peninsula (ask your hotel about it).

Thank you both for your suggestions. We are going to Nafplio and staying at Pension Marianna per RS guidebook. Appreciate your help!
