One week Greece Itinerary suggestion request

Hello!

Planning one week family trip during last week of May to Greece. Would like to to visit Athens, Santorini and Mykonos. This is our first trip to Greece.

Can someone please suggest a good itinerary? I would really appreciate any additional tips/useful info links as well?

Thanks!

For one week, Athens and one island should be your focus. Save yourself the waste of time of moving so much. Be sure to end in Athens to make leaving simpler.

Agree with joe32F, one island, not two. Save all your time for Athens until after the island. Fly out to the island the same day you arrive. Allow 2 hours at the airport to make the connection.

Go to TripAdvisor. Find the forums for your chosen itinerary. Click on "Things to do" at the top of each forum's page.

Agree with the others. You should select one island and combine it with Athens.

Have you looked at other island options besides the two most heavily touristed ones?

I also agree for island. And I would suggest Santorini as mykonos is mainly famous for beaches and 2nd of May will not be so hot on windy islands

Have good time

Also can I get some advise on the need to rent a car either in Athens or Santorini?

Thx!

You do not need nor want a car for touring/visiting Athens. About as useful as an air conditioner in an igloo.

For traveling to some distant location it may be appropriate.

I agree with dropping Mykanos. I went to Paros and Santorini and they were both beautiful and different enough from each other. You can easily take a ferry between them. Paros has gorgeous streets to explore.

I agree with the others: Athens and one island would be easiest. If you go to Santorini, reserve a cave room, built-in to the side of the cliff overlooking the caldera. Do the ruins, also.
If you go to Mykonos, try to get to Delos, if the water/wind is calm; it’s worth it. Have a great trip!

Sorry, one more suggestion: As, you’ll likely have limited time (2days) in Athens, ensure to do Acropolis, the 2 museums and eat on ‘Souvlaki Row’; the Starbucks doesn’t open until 8:00! (this was in 2012, so it might have changed)
