One full day in Athens

We have 2 nights and one full day in Athens before a cruise. We were told the Acropolis Museum is a must. We went to the Acropolis 40+ years ago. Any other thoughts? A walking tour or private driver for the day perhaps? Thanks!

Athens-Walks can set up personal tour w licensed guide who'd be able to take you thru Acropolis, Ancient Agora, Acropolis Museum & whatever you have time/energy for. A "private driver" would be no good to you -- they are not educated/licensed as guides, and therefore cannot escort you into a site & explain everything. They just drive you nearby (sometimes not even that close, as major landmarks often are in pedestrian-only streets), hand you a folder, & you are on your own.

Furthermore, unless you are disabled, everything you'll have time for is within easy walking distance (except for Nat. Archeological Museum, quite a long walk from Acropolis, but just a short taxi ride up a main avenue). If you DO want to visit this amazing treasure-trove of priceless ancient artifacts, Rick Steves even offers a way to see the highlights in a few hours, without getting lost in long corridors of red pots (!). On upper LH of this page, click "Watch Read Listen" & go to Greece/Athens. There u will find his step-by-step FREE Audio downloads to Acropolis, Ancient Agora, and Nat. Arch Museum (the latter offers his "Top 10 Must-Sees"). I'm always distressed when people allot only One Day to a city that's been waiting 2000+ years to amaze you -- but good planning can give you a taste... and perhaps draw you back again.
