One Day in Athens- recommendatins for best Acroplis/Parthenon/Museum package

Hi - We arrive in Athens on the 27th of September , recover from jet lag that evening , and are looking to cover off the Acroplis, etc. on the 28th. On the 29th, we will train back to the airport to pick up our rental car for a Pelopennese tour) I would appreciate some tips on whic tickets to buy.

We would like to do a self-guided tour (as years ago we did a altour of the Acropolis off a cruise ship and found it too rushed and hard to follow). We are fit and able to walk around as needed. A self-guided audio tour would be great but I am just not sure of what to purchase, etc. and best value for the dollar.

Recommendations would be appreciated. We are staying in a hotel about 1.5k fromthe Acropolis......

Thank you all. The other forum topics here have been very helpful for the rest of our trip.

Like all those who visit sites and museums on their own, you just have to decide what you want to visit and go there. What additional help would you need?

If your hotel is too far to walk, take the metro or the bus. It's 1.20 euro per ticket.

If you want to buy your tickets in advance the official website is:

All other third party offers are mostly useless and always more expensive

Thank you for the response to my query and link to website for purchasing tickets. The website indicates September 28, our day to visit the Acropolis, is an Open Day, so happy about that.

Yes, from September 27 to 29 it will be the European Heritage Days.

Note that there will probably more people than usual wanting to visit the Acropolis

You don’t need to purchase an audio tour- Rick offers his for free here on this site. Just download. He also provides a map, I printed it out and took it with me last year.
