Could anyone suggest a one-day cruise for our group of 4 adults? We'll be in the Athens area for 8 days at the end of March and are interested in experiencing a taste of the Greek Islands. I've heard about one-day cruises that cover Aegina, Poros, and Hydra. Any recommendations for a specific company or cruise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Those 3 island day cruises involve more time on a boat than on the islands.
You are better off picking one of the Saronic Islands and do a day trip on your own.
The best option would be Aegina as it has everything one would want in a Greek Island.
You next option would be Hydra.
Don't overlook Poros as it has a lovely main town with neo-classical architecture.
Leave in the morning, spend several islands on an island, return late afternoon and you'll still have plenty of time for a night out in Athens.
It would be better to go during the week rather than weekends when things can get crowded and hectic.
We went to Hydra, but not as a one-day cruise; we stayed two nights and loved it. I'm not sure it would be that great if just for a few hours. The magic of Hydra is the evenings and the walks out of town. Personally I would rather focus on one place rather than hitting 3 islands in 12 hours.
However our ferry passed by Poros and I thought that looked like a fantastic place for a day trip. I would just take the regular ferry, not a tour.
I am not sure if this is significant or not but the ships on these routes are not cruise ships but rather they are ferries on regular scheduled runs.
