We have booked all our trip for July and are only missing the return from Naxos to Athens on July 31. We were planning on flying to Athens to spend 2.5 days there, and wanted to maximize our time. Is the best way to take a ferry from Naxos and fly from Mykonos? How soon do we need to get the tickets, and how much time should we allow between the ferry and airport, transfers, etc? Thank you!
Why not fly from Naxos to Athens. There are several flights a day on Aegean/Olympic (I think there is a seat sale on right now. ) Sky express also flies this route. I think there may be 6 flights a day between them.
Could not find a flight from Naxos on Olympic or Aegean on July 31st. I thought there may not be an airport at Naxos.
You don't have to go through Mykonos to get to Athens.
There is an airport in Naxos.
On July 31, there are, to date, 5 flights to Athens with Sky Express at:
8:55 a.m., 11:10 a.m., 1:35 p.m., 5:05 p.m., 7:50 p.m.
4 flights with Olympic at:
9:35 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 2:15 p.m., 4:30 p.m.
Flight time is approximately 45 minutes
You can go to the airport by taxi, or
there are buses from Naxos Town to the airport, this is the line that goes to Ag Prokopios (you have to get off the bus before Ag Prokopios, then walk about 200 meters to the airport).
In summer the buses leave every 30 minutes every day from 7:30.
The trip takes about 15 minutes. the ticket cost in 2021 €1.80
By ferry:
before 5:00 p.m. there are 4 departures to Athens (port of Piraeus) at:
9:30 a.m., 1:40 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 4:45 p.m.
The 9:30 am departure (Blue Star Patmos) arrives in Athens the earliest (at 2:45 pm). It's also the cheapest way to go to Athens
Thank you all! For some reason Olympic shows no flights Saturday or Sunday for those dates. I did find Skyexpress though.
I guess it depends on travel preferences, but anybody has any thoughts on taking the first flight out from Naxos to Athens, given we have 2.5 days? On the one hand, early rising (for our 18 year old), assume we have to be there at least at 7:45 AM. Arrive in Athens and room not ready. Upside would be 3/4 of a day in Athens instead of half....I know this is personal, but so many of you have had experience in Greece to the minute details....Thanks again!
I would take the first flight out of Naxos, otherwise you are most likely just killing time at your hotel, waiting to go to the airport. The vast majority of hotels will store your luggage until the room is ready. Drop off your bags and start exploring Athens, thus maximizing your time there. In addition, if that first flight out of Naxos would happen to be canceled for some reason, then you would still have other flight options for later in the day.
Thank you, that settles it!
