Looking for a hotel area that nearer to the airport than the center of Athens so that we can still have a nice dinner night out and easily get to our hotel in the morning for our flight.
I've read about Avra. Any others you would recommend? And any specific hotels?

Sofitel is next to airport.
Sofital is a good choice if you have a very early flight. It is directly across form the terminal which gives you an extra hour of sleep. As I recall their dining room was good.
However if you are at the airport in the afternoon then Avra isa better choice. It has a free shuttle to and from the airport. It is located near a beach and the central square is a couple hundred meters from Avra. You can have a last evening at a Greek Taverna.
Avra is half the price of Sofital.
kristikis, there are Hotels. There is NOT a "Hotel Area". This is not like a big USA Airport, a la JFK, Atlanta, etc surrounded by a virtual "city" of chain hotels.
You can check the Dolce Attica Riviera hotel in Brauron, just 5-6 kilometers from Athens Airport.
We have reservations at the Sofitel for our May trip. Although pricey, we'll have returned our rental car and have a non flight the next day, Allowing for three hours advance, that means a 9 AM airport time so we can get up, eat breakfast and stroll across the street. It also means that we could get Rapid Covid tests at the airport the day before if we need to.
We're staying at Varaba Country House which is very near the airport. The host is fantastic and interesting. The pets are an add on. Occasionally you hear a plane, its short time periods. A little challenging to get here via gps because of one way streets. The place is absolutely lovely.
