Naxos/Paros question

I’ve got a ~3 week trip planned with my family and am deliberating over how much time to spend in Naxos vs Paros:

Currently:
3 nights Santorini (Firostefani)
5 nights Naxos (Agios Georgios)
4 nights Paros (Naoussa)
4 nights Nafplio
3 nights Athens

One of our Paros days will be spent on a Lazy Day cruise with Captain Ben. I’m deliberating extending Naxos to 6 nights and cutting Paros to 3 nights, since Naxos is large and seems to have lots to see.

What would you recommend? Keep existing itinerary or one more day in Naxos?

Thanks!!

I like Naxos more than Paros but I can imagine that other people prefer Paros.

I agree w Nicksy & Pat, have been to both multiple times ... but Naxos has SO much to discover! If u rent a car for 1 full day in Paros, u can cover its highlights quite well

I really like Naxos and Paros, and I don't see why the two islands are being compared. The landscapes, topography, hikes, villages, beaches, people, traditions, agriculture — everything is different.

Especially since to compare them properly, you have to take the time to explore both islands. That's where, sorry, I'm going to sound provocative, but what I'm really wondering is, since I often read phrases like "Naxos is large and has lots to see," why, on the largest island in the Cyclades, do 99% of the people on this forum stay in the same places, in a very limited area of Naxos Town, Agios Georgios, Agios Prokopios? The most adventurous venture as far as Plaka Beach. All of this represents barely 5% of the island's surface area, beaches, and accommodation options.

So why not talk about all those other places on Naxos that are supposed to make it your favorite island?

At best, I see a few comments from visitors who went on a day trip to Filoti, or even Chalki, to taste that awful Kitron liqueur. :)

I have not been to Naxos and thus cannot comment on it. In Paros, stay in Parikia if you want to eat at restaurants catering to locals rather than almost 100% tourists. When I visited Naoussa, I did not find it authentic. Just full of Brits.

JoLui ... I have been all over the island, when on my own mainly by bus because I don't now drive ... but when I bring others along, we get a car ... Why you hear more about beach areas is because people are inquiring about lodgings, so we must discuss that. It does not mean that we only see our beach apartments, the sand, and the port town. It is just that people don't come here to listen to my tales of getting lost in a village, or going to a marble-cutting factory, or sitting on a farm fence watching an old guy shear a sheep. They want to know where they can find 2 bedrooms where they can walk to the water.

Janet, It's not about spending time watching someone shear a sheep or exploring a marble quarry (we love that!). It's about diversifying and not limiting ourselves to just a small part of Naxos, since the idea was to compare Naxos with other places like Paros. That seems obvious and the least we can do.

Without listing all the interesting places inland on Naxos, the entire west coast of Naxos, for at least 15 km, offers far more places to stay than those constantly mentioned here, and they're also close to the beaches. I never see them mentioned, even though it would mean specifying that a car is recommended.

So, I'd like to take this opportunity to tell newcomers to Naxos: Don't limit yourselves to Naxos Town, Agios Prokopios, or Agios Georgios!

That's my motto for the day. :)
