Naxos advice...

Hi all,

I'm trying to reshuffle our trip to Greece for this summer because it will let me squeeze out one extra day in Naxos. The only problem -- the hotel I was super excited to stay at isn't available for these new dates. I'm looking to understand if Naxos town is the best option or if we should consider someone else. Here is more info.

Trip is in June and will include hubby and I plus our 3 teenage daughters (13, 15, 17). We will be coming from Athens and continuing to Santorini and then our last few days will be in Meteora. For this trip, we are looking to enjoy the Naxos' culture and eat wonderful authentic food, so we want to be in a central part of town so we can walk to attractions, restaurants, etc. The peaceful, remote hotels where the purpose is relaxing isn't want we want for this particular trip. We also aren't sit by the beach people (we are from California and travel to Hawaii, so when we want to sit on the beach, we do it in Hawaii).

I had wanted to stay at the Nissaki Hotel (it came very highly recommended from a few different friends), but as I said, they can't accommodate 5 people on the new dates (they only have rooms for 2, and getting 3 rooms would be expensive).

My questions --
1. Based on how I describe our family, is Naxos town the best option? Is there another area that's fun/lively that I should consider?

2. If Naxos town is the best option, any other hotel suggestions? Bonus points if they can accommodate 5 five in 1 or 2 rooms.

I think Naxos Town would be the best place for you and your family based on what you describe you want. We stayed at the Hotel Palatia last May and really enjoyed our stay there. It is on the edge of Agios Georgios Beach, which means you can easily walk to the center of town. And take walks along the beach if you wish. We paid $70 USD per night for a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the beach. I don't know if they have rooms for more than 2 people.

FOr upscale hotels in that area somewhat similar to NIssaki, look at Galaxy, Naxos Resort Beach Hotel.... a hotel that has some multi-room units is Hotel Spiro, a very lovelly smaller hotel is Hotel Naxis but v. hard to book. This St. George (Ag Giorgios) beach location is the best for you, given your teen trio. It's a 10-minute walk into town, there are lots of teens around, and you're able to safely let them be rather independent (just have them carry their phones & check in regularly).

Just to be clear Nissaki is at St George beach. St George is part of Naxos town. But generally when someone says they are staying In Naxos town they really mean in the old town area.

So yes you should look for another hotel at St George beach, Nissaki is probably the most luxurious of the hotels at the beach.

You might want to look at Studios Kalergis its about 100 meters down the beach from Nissaki. It has a good reputation and i am pretty sure they have some studios with triple beds.

On the same street as Nissaki look at Hotel Kymata. They have two top floor rooms that have a large balcony and a second bedroom.
Also look at Diogenis. It is between Kalergis and Nissaki it too is beachfront.

Our favourite is Boutique hotel Glaros right beside Nissaki. It is special however I do not know if they have rooms for 3. Certainly worth looking at their web site.

For sure Studios Glaros has several rooms for three and if I recall one suite has enough beds for 5 people. The studios are in a residential area of town about 100 meters from the beach. You might also want to look at Hotel Spiros. I have visited or stayed in all of these suggested hotels.
