Hello! We will be heading to Greece in 2 weeks time: Athens, Naxo's, Santorini.
We are hoping to do 1 beach day. I was leaning towards ferrying over to Mykono's, but based on Ricks book it sounds like Naxo's also has some great beaches? Are there any suggestions you can share?
We already have 1 full day planned to travel over to Mykono's for site seeing etc from Naxo's(home base) so if we can avoid doing a return, we will stay put!

Please forgive me for pointing this out, but there are no apostrophes in ‘Naxos’ or ‘Mykonos’, or indeed in any Greek place names.

Hi, I am in Naxos right now and the beaches are great! Well, I've only been here for 2 days and Agios Prokopios and Ag Anna beaches are fine. We went to Mykonos to sightsee but did not try the beaches so I can't comment on that. If you want 1 beach day and you're already in Naxos, just do it there. The water is great!

Naxos has far more, and more beautiful, beaches than Mykonos. Mykonos is best known across Europe for its pricey beach bars catering to a party-loving crowd. That is the main reason people go there, though I assume you already know this. If not, here is some information on the beaches of Mykonos:

The most convenient (and the most crowded) ones are those near Naxos Town (Chora), such as Agios Georgios & Agios Prokopios Beaches. So, if you just want to spend a day at the beach without the party scene, I don't see why you would need to go to Mykonos.
As you head down the west coast, you'll find plenty of other vast, sandy beaches. You will need a car to reach them.
How do you plan to get to Mykonos from Naxos? Independently or via an organized tour?
If you are going independently, be sure to check the ferry schedules if you want to return to Naxos by the end of the day.
Also, keep in mind that the Mykonos ferry port is located some distance away from the beaches and the town itself.

As it will be already the beginning of October, it already started to cool down a bit, so from personal experience I'd recommend Agios Georgios beach directly in Naxos town, as it is a bit sheltered from the wind and the water is shallow and slightly warmer. It is by far not the most beautiful beach on Naxos, as there are more people compared to other beaches, but definitely the most convenient one.
On the other hand, if the weather is really good and there is not too much wind, you can take the public bus (station at the port) and go down the west coast to visit one of the numerous options like Prokopios, Anna, Plaka and many more. Check out bus timetables here: https://naxosbuses.com/

We spent a week on Naxos and went to Plaka beach every day. It was beautiful. That said, we were there in July, not October. The weather looks quite cold and windy for the coming weeks, so a beach day might be optimistic.
Have fun in Mykonos with the 20-something party crowd.
