I'll be in Athens in October. Want to book a ticket/time to visit National Archeological Museum. Is there a best site to use for booking? And is a tour advised? Any suggestions or tips appreciated. Thanks
Debra
You do not need to book in advance for the NAM, especially in October, when the wait time range from 0 to 90 seconds.
Free thematic audio guides are available when you purchase your tickets at the entrance.
If you want something more comprehensive and educational, you should hire a guide in advance.
The only official website for purchasing tickets in Greece is hh.gr.
For the NAM, the price is €20. If you cannot wait up to 90 seconds, here is where you can buy your ticket:
https://tickets.hh.gr/en/venues/national-archaeological-museum
This very site has a free audio tour for the museum (as well as the Acropolis, etc)
Always buy tickets through the official site. In this case it’s the namuseum.gr. There is a link that takes you to the official Hellenic Heritage site which is part of the Greek Ministry of Culture. Tickets are 20 euros. I spent a morning in the Museum when I went in October and it was not crowded . I don’t use guided tours in Museums or galleries, I like to take my time and concentrate on what interests me.
