We just spent three wonderful days in Athens but one of our hiccups was waiting for the museum to open at 1230 on Tuesday. I don't see it posted anywhere on the website so just thought I'd let everyone know. We should have gone to the museum's website before going but didn't... Happy Travels!

When we visited several years ago, some of the galleries were closed for lack of staff. These closures rotated among different galleries over different days and times. I don't know whether the website gave any notice of them, but there must have been signs in the museum. This was during some of the worst of Greece's debt crisis, when major austerity policies were required by its creditors. Things have eased somewhat so hopefully the whole museum is open now.
The NAM website shows a 12:30 opening on Tuesdays, 8:00 on other days, slightly shorter hours in the off season.

Many other museums -- both state-owned & otherwise -- have Monday closings (as is common in other countries). N.A.M. in past has been open 7 days, but may trim costs for shorter hours on one or 2 days of week ... typically that would be a Tuesday, so that it could offer full hours on Mondays when others are closed.
