Nafplio--Restaurants

Any recommendations for a birthday dinner in Nafplio in July? We are a family of four including 2 older teens.
Looking for something special--great food, great view, etc. Recommendations for a bakery where I can order a birthday cake would also be appreciated!

Have you yet read through all the links in http://www.visitnafplio.com ?? This superb NONcommercial website is one of the best and most complete destination websites I've found in Greece ... and I've made 13 trips visited 25+ isles, a dozen places in Pelops, etc. The website creator is an ex-pat who's lived in Nafplio at least 15 years, knows it better than people born there. She only recommends places she knows personally, has no commercial connection. Her advice is GOLD. Here's is the site link of favorite places to eat in Old Town -- http://www.visitnafplio.com/really-useful-info/eat-and-drink-in-nafplio.html ... I urge you to read this (and all links) ... and use your map of Nafplio to mark locations (if you don't have a map there are plenty online). Of the smaall traditional tavernas, my 2 favorites are Omorfo, and Aeolus. NOTE: small tour groups like Steves -- 10 or 15 pleople -- often book a loong outdoor taable at places llike this, so it's smart to stop by earlier and reserve a table for 4 in your preferred location. Especially since u will be in High season.

SPECIAL DINING -- FOr an upscale place that's a bit special for a birthday, I think that AGNANTI Is open... its "around the point" at water level... a glass-windowed place where you can dine AND enjoy sunset @ saame time. It was closed for a while due to pandemic & other problems, but appears to have re-opened because It's lilsted in Trip Advisors link oof 10 Best -- Updated as of May 2022 - https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g319780-oa60-Nafplio_Argolis_Region_Peloponnese.html -- Again, i wouold encourage you, before your trip, just to write a polite e-mail to your hotelier and ask whether Agnanti is open. and alaso about bakeries....a hotel will know which bakeries can do special cake decor. this is the kind of thing that hotels build a reputation on... local knowledge & helpfulness.

Janet, thank you for the response. I have, thoroughly, read the comprehensive site on Nafplio you recommend--and it is very helpful. However, I am looking for recommendations for a restaurant that might be festive or particularly atmospheric (and delicious) for a birthday. It seems like Agnanti might be permanently closed. Has anyone tried Wild Duck restaurant?

I have emailed the hotel a few times, but they have not responded. So, any bakeries with birthday cakes?

Alevri ke zahari (Flour and Sugar) are a really nice bakery, and do good cakes. I’m not sure they will do a traditional birthday cake but I’m not sure anywhere in Greece will. They are in the new town on Sidiras Merarchias, about 5 minutes walk from the bus station.

The pictures here will give an idea.

Thank you for the recommendation. I'm sure there are versions of birthday cakes (they might not be exactly what I would bake) all over Greece. I have heard a theory that it was the ancient Greeks who started the tradition of putting candles on birthday cakes.

Aeolus open and avail ; also O Noulis was great but only open for lunch (but they said that will change in June)
Happy travels

We recently returned from Greece, and we loved our dinner at Aioloi in Nafplio.
And also enjoyed our meal at Bounos Psarosavouras at the marina in Nafplio.
