Mykonos to Milos getting there advice

Hi! My names Mel ill be traveling to Greece in September and have all my island hopping days set. My only problem is I need to get from Mykonos to Milos. The 2 ferry options aren't the best because its a 3 or 6h ferry and they take up a good chunk of the day since its mid day or evening ferries. Usually that wouldn't bother me but I only have 2 days in Milos and I'd rather not lose one day due to a ferry. My other option is flying, I found a good flight time from Mykonos to Athens and then a good time from Athens to Milos however I only have a 55 min connection between both. Would I be able to make it? I've never flown into Athens airport I dont know how the terminal is or the lay out. I don't know if I would need to pass customs or not. Any advice is appreciated thank you!

The flights are your best bet. The ferry routes just take too long.
55 minutes is not much time for a connection. I am assuming you are connecting in Athens airport with the same airline on one ticket. That would mean your checked bags will be automatically transferred to your second flight. That would mean you do not have to go through passport control, and you can get to the departure gate for your second flight quickly.

If you are flying Aegean they have ambassadors in blue jackets who will expedite your transfer from one flight to the next. They will not sell you a ticket if they do not believe they can get you to the second flight in time.
We have done connections like this and as I remember you did not even have to leave the arrival level and you can access the departures gates without having to go through security again. I might be tempted to contact your airline to confirm how to get from arrival to departures without going through security again.

Hi! Thanks for replying, It would be Mykonos to Athens (AEAGEN) then Athens to Plaka, MLO (Sky Express). I am also doing one carry on so I think that will be faster for me.

Cabin baggage is good so you can immediately get to your next flight. Sky express allows you to print your boarding pass 2 days before the flight so you will already be checked in.
You may want to contact Sky Express to confirm you can transfer from arrivals to departures without having to go through security again.
I did find some information that suggests that you do not have to leave arrivals to get to departures with domestic flights but with only 55 minutes you want to be sure you can make the transfer without having to go through security again.

Your best option is to fly. When arriving in Athens from Mykonos, you should be in the same terminal as other flights to/from other Greek islands.

I was in Greece the last 2 weeks, and I arrived in Athens from an international flight and had more than 1 hour layover to catch Aegean/Olympic flight to Milos. I didn’t know whether I had to go through passport control or customs and was told to exit to get to the Milos gate. Not believing and before actually exiting, I found an office with custom officials by the exit door and they confirmed to exit the area and go downstairs (within the same building) to catch my Milos flight.

You shouldn’t need to do that since you’ll arrive in the same terminal/level or in close vicinity to gates to Milos. It’ll just depend on whether you’ll be there by the boarding time to Milos (30 mins). Flight to Milos was only 35 minutes.

Hi! We actually did, make sure your luggage is below 8kg or you will have to check it in we didn’t know they weighed carry on. The plane from Mykonos to Athens was super quick it’ll say 45 minute flight but the pilot told us 30 minutes so we had extra time. Also tell them you’re connecting they will put a priority tag on your luggage and it will come out first because remember baggage claim takes 30-45 minutes basically most of your connection time. Then you’ll go through security again it was pretty fast and once again check in luggage because the airplane to Milos is ridiculously small our personal item which was a backpack didn’t even fit over head. Enjoy your trip and best of luck!
