My adult daughter and I are traveling to Greece in April 2024. I've been 3 times and this is her first time. She has suggested we go to Mount Parnitha. I'd appreciate hearing about anyone's experience with transportation there from Athens (besides renting a car), what to see, and if there are trails suitable for those of us who are decent walkers though not hard-core hikers. Thanks. Linda

I’ve never done it myself but this has quite a bit of information including public transport options. It’s from 2019 but transport in Greece tends to stay pretty much the same.

An alternative is the walk to Kaisariani Monastery. The monastery is very small but in a beautiful setting and you get great views back over Athens from the surrounding hillside. A bus 224 from the centre stops below the monastery and there is a 30 minute uphill walk to the monastery.

Hi, Alan. Thanks so much for your reply and this recommendation for visiting Kaisariani Monastery. From the description and the photos, it looks like a lovely place to observe some natural beauty close to the city. My daughter and I are certainly considering it.
