We are family of 4 looking for accommodations in monemvasia (hotels, apts --anything!). Looking for that magical experience! And as sad as this is--we also need wifi. (Only way we can do this trip is husband works online so need actual wifi). Kids are old enough we can do 2 rooms when necessary so just recommend your favorites! Also in general do you recommend upper or lower???

We stayed at the Panorama Hotel on the mainland. Fabulous view of "The Rock", and a very nice hotel.

We just left Monemvasia this morning and we stayed at Hotel Byzantino. Rooms were a decent price and the wifi worked well. The rooms are really neat and have a lot of charm.http://www.hotelbyzantino.com/

Just to add to the first two responses. You can stay on shore as there are hotels in the village. That is the description of a good view of the rock.
The second post is from a person who stayed inside the walled town on the rock. Byzantino is not a hotel in the traditional sense. It is a series of restored period rooms spread out in the Medieval town inside the city walls. Our room had a gun port in the bathroom (very cool). The previous poster has confirmed wi fi works. Can you imagine how excited your children are going to be when they discover they are staying in a medieval walled city.

If possible, stay on the island, not on the mainland. It's a long walk if you are staying in town, and there's no magic compared to being in an ancient walled city. Not sure how long you want to stay, but if it's two weeks, give Monopati Residence a try--they have charming apartments but require a two-week minimum. As a previous poster has commented, Hotel Byzantino is also a good choice; although they don't have apartments.
