Monembasia

How hard was the climb up to the top of the Monemvasia Rock? We are mid 60's.

We were there last April, and stayed the night on the far east end of the village, and started trekking after breakfast. Only saw a couple other people out climbing. It's not as physically challenging as most of the hikes in the Colorado mountains as far as steepness goes and footing stability goes, but there's absolutely no cover, so you're exposed to the wind, sun, and/or rain.

There were a couple of easy-to-miss signs on the main "sidewalk" in town, pointing the way towards the castle ruins, but if you get off track by one lane or another, just keep heading up or down, depending on which way you're headed. You can't really get lost, and I didn't exactly retrace my steps on the way down, ending up in a place back in the village farther west than when I'd started.

The walk down the causeway to get to where we parked our car the afternoon before was a longer distance than the hike up to the ruins, but the climb took longer.

If you can climb several floors of stairs without problems, you can hike Monemvasia with no trouble. Just bring water!

I agree with the last paragraph summary above. This is not a wild country trek or a rock scramble. It’s a well built access to the top of medium sized cliff. I’m sure the feet of elevation is on Wikepedia.
