Mobile phones carriers and SIM cards

Travelling to the Greek mainland soon. We're going to be going from Athens as far as the Epirus region. We plan to buy Greek SIM cards (our phones are NOT eSIM compatible) in Athens the day after arrival (we arrive in the evening). We'll be in Greece ~ 5 weeks.
Some questions:
1: Vodafone or Cosmote -- who has the best coverage?
2: Vodafone look to have a tourist plan for 1 Euro/day. A site called Traveltomtom.net however mentions that there are official street SIM vendors in Athens, which sounded sketchy, but:
"You can also buy a Vodafone Greece prepaid sim card from a street vendor:
Unlimited data + 200 minutes + 50 international minutes for 30 days = €12 EUR - $13 USD
As you can see the street vendors sell different Vodafone Greece prepaid sim card plans that are even cheaper than what you get in a Vodafone store. Vodafone Greece does not provide e-sim cards, they only sell physical prepaid sim cards for tourists."

Has anyone here done this? Is it as safe as the site makes out?
