Milia & Eleonas both sound great and we can't decide. Can anyone compare? Also, can anyone compare in terms of nearby hikes or sites/places within day-trip driving distance?
We are in our early 70's, fit, & will be going in September & renting a car. We will visit the museum in Chania since it was closed last time. We also plan to do the southern ferry hopping and stay in Sougia for a few days.
When we visited Crete a few years ago we stayed in Chania and from there did day trips to Elafonissi Beach (had lunch at Milia Mntn Retreat on the way), Imbros Gorge hike, Ancient Aptera and Fres, and Rethymnon. From Spili we visited Phaestos and Gortyna and in Iraklion we visited the museum and of course Knossos. All fabulous and loved every minute, even the driving with beautiful scenery. We like archeological sites, museums, and moderate hikes (we plan to hike another gorge or two this time). We don't want to sit on a beach all day and don't want to shop.
Any other "can't miss" experiences/places, especially archeological, people can recommend? Favorite gorges other than Samaria?
