Is it better to do a hiking tour or just follow the paths? How long does it take?

Will you have a car to get there? If so, I would drive to each monastery and walk from there. There is a lot of walking and a lot of steps involved even after you actually park. I did not hike up, but it looked like the paths were well-marked. There are 6 monasteries and they are not all open every day (except Sunday), so plan accordingly. The place is beautiful.
