I have read that the best way to see Meteora is to take the train on your own and then use a local guide at Meteora. Does anyone have a suggestion about what guide to get in Meteora? I keep seeing tours that include the train ride. We will be coming from Athens to Meteora.

I can recommend VisitMeteora. They offer a variety of tours. Some are multiday and include train travel and accommodations, but others you can sign up for independently just for the morning or afternoon. I actually took 3 tours with them: the sunset tour, the morning tour, and the hiking the hermit caves tour.

We went on two tours with them-the cave one and the hiking one. Really enjoyed them including the guide (who was actually same for both tours!). Would highly recommend.

Frank II, look at the VisitMeteora Tours. They have one from Thessaloniki, also. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I think I'm going with VisitMeteora.
