I'm going to be going to Greece at the end of August and figure the sun will still be pretty strong. At home I typically wear a hat when going to the beach so I figure I ought to use one when out sightseeing. Do you just wait until you are in Greece to buy a hat, or is there one you bring from home that is packable you can recommend?
I never go anywhere (literally) without my Seattle Sombrero. Works great for everything that has ever fallen down on me from above: sun, rain, snow, sleet, hail, splashing seawater/river water, bird poop, even small pebbles (won't help much with big rocks, coconuts, meteorites). Crushable, flexible, light weight, just about perfect.
If you have a favorite hat bring it, especially if its "foldable", "rollable" etc. It won't take up much room.
Most Greek men don't wear hats, even the traditional "Greek Hats"
If you are going to spend a lot of time outdoors then a hat is recommended, but August will be hot so it should be something light and breathable.
If you like the 'Seattle Sombrero' now looks like a good time to get one--- 1/2 off
That is a screamin' deal, joe, thanks for the pointer.
After long service, my first Seattle Sombrero blew off my head on the top of an ancient volcano and flew off into the distance during a fierce wind (Craters of the Moon National Monument - highly recommended). I was so bummed out - I had taken that hat all around the world for a decade. I came home and bought two replacements. With the half-off deal, I thin I'll pick up a third.
