May pre cruise advice requested - Athens and the Peloponnese

My wife and I are traveling to Athens, arriving May 7. We depart on a cruise from Athens on May 14, stopping at Olympia and Corfu en route to Venice. We don’t care about hanging around at a beach, or particularly need to visit an island. I’m considering 2 or 3 nights in Nafplio upon arrival, using it as a base for exploring sights in the eastern Peloponnese. My questions are: should I plan on two or three nights in Athens before boarding the ship? Should I include a trip to Delphi for a night between Nafplio and Athens and/or see some of the Mani peninsula instead or in addition to (through dropping a night in one of the two? Or any other suggestions. Appreciate any advice and comments.

Nafplio is a delightful city with a pretty old town. Its perfect for getting over jet lag and touring the surrounding ancient sites. Yes I think you should consider driving back to Athens for at least a couple of nights to explore the ancient central area. You might want to stop in Corinth on the way to or from Nafplio to visit the canal and don't miss Acrocorinth a massive fortress with 360 degree views around the countryside.
Logistically rent the car at the airport and drop it off there and take a bus/taxi/transfer company to take you into central Athens. Get a hotel in this area so you can walk everywhere.

I stayed at Acropolis View Hotel in Athens and loved it. Looks a little rough on the outside, but the inside is completely modern and updated. I had a good view of the Acropolis from my room and a great view from the rooftop terrace where breakfast is served. Short two block walk to Acropolis, less than ten minutes to Acropolis Museum and Acropolis metro station.
