Luggage Question

First question - Is there a way to search these forums? I hate starting new topics if they have been covered, but for some reason I haven't seen a way.

As for this topic, I'm sure it can go anywhere, but since we are traveling to Greece, I thought some advice from folks who've been there/done that might have practical advice. Between Athens and Cyclades Island hopping, we'll be taking a mixture of Sky Express Flights, Ferry's and Taxi's (and I think in one place they escort you to your room on Donkey!)...in addition to any walking we have to do with our luggage. We'd like to make sure we think strategically about luggage!!

When traveling through Zimbabwe, standard duffle bags (no hard sizes or wheels) w/ cubes worked best because of the planes...but we didn't have to handle our luggage at all. We're thinking more of the rolling duffle with backpack straps would give us max flexibility. Something like this: http://www.ebags.com/product/high-sierra/at7-32-inch-wheeled-duffel-with-backpack-straps/264224

It's July, so we know we can pack light thankfully! We also purchased the "plus" tickets on Sky Express so understand weight restrictions.

Thanks!

Jason

Oh, geeze, face palm. It's so big I literally looked past it thinking it was just part of the header :)

It is gigantic! How much would it weigh when loaded? And the backpack looks to be very uncomfortable with no waist belt. One reviewer said it was very uncomfortable after just a few minutes. Shoulder straps too thin. It is at least double the size we would take. It would always have to be checked since it is too large for carry on. So not sure what question you are asking. As an approach to packing light, this bag does not cut it. I think it would be a poor choice. You need to move to something smaller.

PS -- Just read some more customer reviews. They all love it because it is so huge. One posting bragged about being able to pack it to the 50 lb limit with no effort. Packing light is 50 lbs.

Not a good choice. Go with a smaller one with good support. Learn to live without all the clothing you think you 'might' need and stick with the basics. Wash as you go. The July sun is VERY hot and will dry your clothing quickly.

We travel to Greece for a month with two cabin bags and two Personal items ( small cloth backpacks) We fly Aegean air go lite fares that have max weight of 8 kilos, about 16 pounds.
On our first trip to Greece we left our big bag at our hotel and took a week island hop to Samos in order to visit Ephesus in Turkey.
We carried only day sized backpacks. On our return we realized we never missed anything we left behind. That revolutionized our future packing.

Since then we essentially do mix and match. Everything has to be interchangeable with everything else. We wash our clothes each night and dry them on the line. Most small hotels in Greece have a clothesline attached to the balcony. We buy washing powder when we arrive and wash the clothes in the sink.

You will appreciate packing light when you hump your bags onto your first ferry.
