Has anyone stayed in rustic village of Akrotini? It is not on the tourist route and small, but seems very interesting. Is it too far off the beaten trail? We are there only two nights.

I have never stayed there but many of the hotels will have a nice caldera view. It is certainly at the far end of the island but close to Akrotiri and the village of Pyrgos. You may want to consider renting a car if you want to visit other parts of the island. Taxis will also work. The local bus probably also services the area.

It's a quiet area. There are a few shops and restaurants there and the famous archaeological site is definitely worth your time, but if you want to explore some of the other villages a rental car would be the best option since you only have 2 nights.
