Lodging in Crete: Chania or Heraklion?

Just want to know if anyone has any strong opinions or suggestions?

Stay in Chania, one of Greece’s most beautiful cities. Visit Heraklion to see Knossos and the Archeological Museum.

Ok thank you. Do you think I should take a ferry or fly to Chania? Thank you

Fly or ferry will depend on your overall itinerary, time constraints, etc. Compare both and see what works out better.

Thank you I think I will ferry to Chania (2 nights) from Santorini then travel to Heraklion (2nights) then fly back to Athens to go home ✈️

Have you actually found a ferry from Santorini to Chania? Most (maybe all?) only go to Heraklion. I liked Chania very much, a few sights, the Venetian harbor, really lovely historic center. Take into account that the only tranportation between Chania and Heraklion is by bus. On the schedule, it's about 2-2.5 hour trip. I took the bus to Chania and that's how long it took. On the way back to Heraklion it took over 4 hours.

A few days ago I looked at flights to/from several islands. I didn't find any flights between islands, only to Athens. I did see that there is an overnight ferry (22.00 - 6.00) from Chania to Athens/Piraeus.

Ha no that is why I had to edit my trip to Heraklion 1 night then rent a car the next day to drive to Chania. The Ferry comes in too late for me to rent a car and drive the same day. Bummer. Logistics is everything in planning.

Sorry you had to find out about ferries after you made initial bookings. When people check before locking in destinations, they can avoid backtracking. We "old hands" are always grateful when people come to forums like this asking... we are considering the following destinations (islands/mainland places), we have looked at maps and guide books (NOTE: "old hands" are pleased when someone has put a bit of energy into prepping), but we'd like advice on the most efficient sequence. Here's our standard advice:

For your kind of trip, the most efficient sequence would be to START with Crete... flying into Chania. It also saves at least a day of car rental, because most people enjoy at least one day exploring that fab Old City, and maybe another in the area or on a boat trip to beaches like Balos/Gramvousa. THEN one picks up a rental car to explore... perhaps driving south, and then NE direction to the Heraklion area... spending the final night there in order to catch a 9 or 9:30 ferry to Santorini.

However, coming from Turkey your Crete flights may be limited. Anyway, I'm sure you'll enjoy your first trip to Greece (I'm sure it won't be your last!). BTW, when u are seeking advice, it's always helpful to give dates... because that has a big influence on weather, crowds, accomodation prices.

For some reason the OP has changed the name they are posting under. It was “Yuonhee” and now is “Nova.”
What’s up with that?

Hi Kenko not sure if you say on the other thread Nova is also my name I thought it would be easier.

Hi Janet,
Thanks for your note. No, I didn’t book anything solid yet. I’m trying to be smart & get some solid advice 1st before booking. My trip will be mid Sept-mid Oct 2022. I’m so excited but this itinerary has been the most difficult for me in a my bookings. Due to logistics…lots of flying between cities. I’m not so concerned with the costs, but rather the time involved in traveling each time. I’m ok with it, but a have a travel partner that complains a lot 🥺😂& whines a lot. My biggest hurdle is deciding which country I want to start. The fares are a bit cheaper starting in Turkey so looks like that would be better.
