Lemnos Greece itinerary help

Hi all, I need help from someone more familiar with Greece and transportation options and all. I’m going with my father and 11 year old son to Greece for 3 weeks from end of June to mid July. My dads family is from Limnos, Greece so our trips to Greece always include Limnos. However, it always seems to make everything more complicated since Limnos is so far out of the way and northern. Since we have more time this trip we wanted to add on another island, maybe Naxos and/or Paros or maybe an island closer to Athens where we won’t need to rent a car. It just seems like a lot… fly back from Limnos to Athens where the flights are already limited then get to the port to ferry to Naxos which isn’t that close to the airport. And if we fly to Naxos it would have to be the next day since Limnos flights come in so late and are limited. Seems like a lot to go to airport that many times. Idk what really makes sense so I thought maybe someone may have a better idea. Thanks!

Seems to me it would be simpler to do your Cyclades island FIRST, for several reasons:
• Earlier is better for Cyclades; crowdier later on, vs. Limnos, less besieged by tourism

• If head to Cyclades/Naxos on arrival day, usually a choice of flights from Athens -- or 5:45 Blue Star Ferry
• Doing LImnos last, a late afternoon flight to Athens would be OK

Another strategic reason for this sequence -- I've talked to a number of Greek-American travellers for whom a stay with relatives is a MUST. Twice, people told me that once at Uncle Nikos' village up in the mountains, they were pressured so intensively to "just stay two more days, your great-aunt is coming," that they ran out of time & didn't get to the islands they had planned on. One couple said they'd learned to visit relatives at END of trip because when they were pressured, they could say, we'd love to stay longer but our tickets are for Thursday & theyre not changeable.

BTW, don't reject Naxos, Paros or Sifnos because u think a car is needed -- all 3 have extensive bus networks & you can see all the highlights & vist all the main beaches without a rental car

Have you considered taking a ferry from Limnos to another island?

You can get to Chios, a very underrated and beautiful island.

Ikaria which is a very "different" type of Greek Island.

Samos which is lovely

Lesvos is very nice and laid back

I would check out these and other islands you can get to from Limnos

Many of the above islands have airports which you can fly to Athens from.
