I am concerned about our 1 hour 50 minute layover in Montreal. We will have only a carry one and personal item. I do not know if we go through customs in Montreal as we have never travel through Canada. If our plane is on schedule, will we make the connecting to flight Houston. I always appreciate your kind input.

We did go thru US customs in Montréal on our flight from Marseilles to Montreal to SFO. I can’t comment on the average time it took to get thru customs because our flight had been delayed and they were trying to rush a group of us thru to make our connecting flights.

Are you flying on one ticket? Many airlines have code share tickets with other airlines. If that is the case the airlines have to get you on the next available flight at no extra charge.
As already mentioned there is US customs at Montreal airport so chances are, that will be less busy as most of the passengers will be clearing through Canadian customs.
The fact that you do not have checked luggage increases your chances of getting to your next flight reasonably quickly.
Only you can assess your risk tolerance.
