A week in Greece. Which itinerary?

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of spending a week in Greece next month and could use some help with my itinerary. I love architecture, atmospheric towns, and museums. (not much into ruins.) Since I'm travelling in May, im planning to focus on the mainland. Athens, Nafplio, Hydra, Meteora, and Monemvasía are the places I'm most interested in visiting. I would like to spend a few days sightseeing, followed by some downtime in an island or picturesque town.

Which plan sounds better?

Plan A
1-Arrive in Athens at 10:30 am
2-Morning bus to Nafplio
3-Nafplio
4-Nafplio
5-Morning bus to Athens.
6-Athens (daytrip to Hydra)
7-Athens
8-Fly home

Plan B
1-Arrive in Athens at 10:30 am
2-Athens (day trip to Hydra)
3-Athens (day trip to Nafplio)
4-Train to Kalabaka. (Sleep in Kalabaka)
5-Tour Meteora (evening train to Athens)
6-Athens
7-Athens
8-Fly home

I'm open to other suggestions too. I was wondering if I should just split my time between Athens(4) and Nafplio (3) and forget about Meteora on this trip. Found a very nice hotel in Nafplio for $50/night so I was thinking about extending my time there.

Thank you for your help.

Plan C ( the 4/3 split) is my vote and it gives you time for a day trip to Hydra, if you want.

Meteora is rather out of the way for the limited days you have

That's my $0.02

Thanks Joe. I think you mean plan A. I'm sort of leaning towards this option, too. (Although Meteora sounds amazing.)

I think Plan A is more convenient and involves less traveling.

You can do a day cruise to Hydra/Spetses from Tolo (near Nafplio) which would eliminate doing so from Athens and spend the extra time in Athens or Nafplio. There is a lot to see, do and experience in Athens. Check out Pegasus Cruises in Nafplio for day trip info.

There is also a lot to do in and near Nafplio including world-class archeological sites.

Tommyk, that excursion to Hydra from Tolo/Nafplio may not be available in May... as I recall it's mainly in High season.

It's been about 10 years since my trip. We (w/ wife and 2 teenage sons) landed and stayed in Athens a few nights then drove to Meteora (1), Delphi (1), Nafplio (2), Athens. It was do-able. A single night in a hotel is a pain.
Nafplio was SO nice that we wish we there more - so you'r 'A' is a nice plan.
I am very glad to have seen Meteora and Delphi.
