We will be in Greece in May. We need to drop our friends at the airport for a morning flight, but we do not leave until that evening. Has anyone driven down to the area south of the airport - Lavrio or Suonio? Or any other ideas? We thought a leisurely drive and a nice lunch on a beach would be a nice last day. We would welcome any thoughts.
Thanks
Decades ago when I visited Greece, I was traveling solo and on one of my days in Athens I did a trip to Sounion. The temple is interesting and I expect that it would be a nice way to spend a final day.

Sounio is worth a visit. The temple is interesting and there are great views over the sea. There is also a very sheltered cove below the temple and in May it will be warm enough for a last sip, if that's your thing.
I'd give Lavrion a miss. It's a not very interesting semi industrial port.
If you've got a car you might have time to take in Brauron. It's an interesting site with quite a lot of a temple to Artemis still standing. Because of the location it doesn't get many visitors.

Finallly, if you just want somewhere for a long lunch Rafina has a number of nice restaurants overlooking the port.

If you're talking about the Athens Airport you can shoot over to Porto Rafti and hit the beach. It's 30-45 minutes away max, easy and fun.

This has some options, and some nice photos.

The temple at Sounion is pretty nice and not far from the airport. Furthermore If you want something alternative, they are a lot of wineries around the airport that do tour and sample wine. So that could be an alternative for you!.
Since it is your last day, you'll probably be OK with just heading over to the beaches just east of the airport and chilling out.
Thanks to all for the suggestions. it looks like we have a lot of options and will have a fine day!
