Is it a good idea to get tested for Covid before international travel?

Is it a good idea to get tested for Covid or is a full record of vaccinations and booster sufficient? I still have a few days to get an antigen or maybe even a PCR. Probably should have thought about this earlier.

Not needed. But it's a good idea to have your vaccination record with you. In fact, it's a good idea to have a short medical history, eyeglass prescription, and record of all your vaccination with you no matter what. You mention on your other post that you'll be taking a cruise. In that case, stay masked, even double-masked. You don't want any last minute surprises.

Thanks for your reply. Did you mean stayed masked while in Athens (pre-cruise) for a week as well as masked on the cruise ship?

I was referring to before the cruise as you are visiting sites in Athens, but I’m sure that I’m preaching to the choir.

However, looking at your question again, let me change my answer to be more specific: as far as I know, a Covid test is not needed to enter Greece. I don’t know if your ship requires a test, and if so, what the timeline would be.

Bon voyage.

Expanding on your question.... I would take one proctored at-home test (person comes onto your phone or laptop with instructions & watches you take the test & results are emailed to you within minutes), so if you do feel unwell you can test yourself. We've used these flying into the USA a few times when a PCR test was required & it was accepted by the airlines. They only come in a package of 2 & when we needed them, we were reimbursed by insurance company. If I don't feel well, the last thing I want to do is go looking for a pharmacy. If you test positive, I think these tests will suffice for insurance purposes, but best to check with your provider. https://store.optum.com/shop/products/abbott-binaxNOW-COVID-19-ag-emed-at-home-test-kit-2-pack/

I wouldn't test before unless I was feeling symptoms. I'll likely wear a mask in the airport traveling over since that seems to be a place where I might contract covid.

Yes, I test before international travel with a free home test. I do it because I feel it is an action to help protect others and I hope they do the same.

I’m with Carol on this. I don’t want to carry a potentially fatal disease into an airport or onto a plane.

3rd vote for a simple self-test at home before international travel just so you know your status. No need to go to the trouble of getting an official one...just get one of the home test kits.
