Impact of Possible May Day Strikes on Ferries Between Santorini and Crete

We will be traveling by ferry from Santorini to Crete on May 1, 2015, which is May Day. We understand that in the past, there have been strikes on May Day that might affect public transportation. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge with whether any labor disputes/strikes could cancel all ferries between Santorini and Crete on May Day, or whether we'd still be able to get to Crete but just later in the day than we had planned. We are not asking whether there will be strikes on May Day. It is way to early to find that out. We just want to know, if there are strikes, how it might impact our ferry plans. Thanks! Paula

Strikes typically last 24-48 hours. Ferry service is not always involved. You will know a few days in advance as the strikes are announced. You can check for updates here: http://livingingreece.gr/strikes

Thank you so much for your quick response and the link to the livinggreece website. It is good to have access to a site that updates whenever strikes are called. Ultimately, it seems there is no way to know in advance if there will be strikes that will affect our plans, and we'll have to just figure it out as we go along. Do you think it would be safer to try to leave Santorini the day before or the day after May Day, in which case we have to rearrange all our plans?
