If you are planning a trip to Greece this summer, it will be worth your time to skim this article:

It has been several years since we visited Greece (I think it was in September), but I remember arriving at the Acropolis, thinking we would make the climb, but changed our minds when a physically fit young lady from New Zealand was in the restroom wringing out her shirt (from sweat), having just finished coming down from the Acropolis. We opted to go into the lovely glass-floored museum (with a decent view) instead.

Perhaps, consider cooler months.

Thank you for this! My daughter and I are going at the end of June, too late to consider cooler months instead but at least now I am prepared for our tour of the Acropolis!

Your best option to avoid the heat is to get there at opening time, 8 a.m. before the heat builds.

The other option is late afternoon but by then who knows how hot it could be or if you are lucky it has cooled off.

I’ve got news for you. It’s hot everywhere and has been for a few years. Last year, when we landed in Athens on June 7, it was 38c, which was fine since we’d arrived from Bergamo where it was an exceptionally unseasonably warm 31. Luckily we only spent one night before and after our island vacation in Athens. We live on an island on the east coast where the summertime temperatures used to not exceed 25c. Last summer, July and august, we had 23 consecutive days of 34c.
