The airlines just informed us we will no be arriving a day early and the good news is we now have an extra in Athens. Have already planned walking tours of all the usual sites and a day trip to Hydra. We will be renting a car and heading to Delphi next and then down to the Peloponnese Peninsula for 3 nights. Any ideas for another day trip from Athens that we would enjoy? Thanks! Prem
If you have a car head for Nafplio for the day. It's about a 2 hour drive so leave in the morning, spend a few hours wandering the town and check out some of the historic sites nearby and you'll still get back to Athens early enough for a night out.
One of Greece's prettiest towns and a great area for World Class Archeological Sites and more.
Best site for Nafplio:
Could you share your list for Athens? Could you rework things to leave a day early for the driving part of the trip?
How many days total do you have in Athens?
There is so much to do and see in Athens that we never have done any day trips on any of our trips there.
I highly recommend the Athens Central Market. There is a very interesting and unique fish market and meat market. There are restaurants in the market for lunch or dinner.
The Athens Flea Market is fun and interesting, too. And shady. When we were there in May, it wasn't crowded either.
Before planning another day trip from Athens there are probably things to see or do in Athens that you have not seen or done.
You can make a day trip to Sounion to see the Temple of Poseidon. Make sure to stay enough to see the sunset from there. You'll be amazed.
Agree with Cape Sunion at sunset- it is stunning. On the way is Vouliagmeni Lake, which was closed in May, but it may be open by now. There are also numerous beach clubs along the coast.
If you wanted to stay in Athens, a walking food tour is fun and they go to the market.
How about a trip to the baths after the food tour? https://www.highheelsandabackpack.com/al-hammam-athens/
