We will be going to Athens in 2023. I would like to take the hydrofoil to Hydra while we are there (possibly stay overnight). Does anyone know if it is better (or possible) to purchase tickets ahead of time online or wait until we get to Athens? Is there a link to purchase tickets?

For a Piraeus Hydra ferry you do not need to book weeks in advance at all. 3 or 4 days is more than enough.
Check the schedules on https://www.ferryhopper.com/ and book directly on the ferry company's website.
The two main companies for this route are Blue Star Ferries and Alpha Lines.
With Blue Star Ferries you can have your ticket directly upon payment. For Alpha Lines I don't think so. You will have a reservation number with which you can collect your ticket from a travel agency in town or at the port (this option si also possible with Blue Star)
