Hydra to Nafplio by Ferry & Bus?

Hello, taking my first trip to Greece in mid-April!...and I need a little public transit guidance.

After Athens we go to Hydra** (for a very short stay) and then to Nafplio. Can we avoid going back through Athens/Pireaus? I read on this site about a ferry-taxi-bus combo to get from Hydra to Nafplio, but I'm struggling to understand the Ktel bus website. If we ferry to Ermioni is there a bus route nearby that will take us to Nafplio?

**I've read several persuasive threads about skipping Hydra and going straight to the Peloponnese. Due to a non-negotiable 'agreement' with my daughter, please believe me that that's not going to happen this trip. :-) Please help me get from Hydra to Nafplio.

Thank you

If your daughter is the once insisting on it, have her figure it out.. it 's complicated. Make it her problem.

There is no direct bus route from Ermioni to Nafplio. I see two possibilities by bus:

With two connections:

  • Bus from Ermioni to Kranidi
  • Bus from Kranidi to Isthmos (Korinthos)
  • Bus from Isthmos (Korinthos) to Nafplio

With one connection (but it seems that you would have to spend the night in Kranidi):

  • Bus from Ermioni to Kranidi
  • Bus from Kranidi to Nafplio

For routes and timetables and ticket purchase see the KTEL Argolidas website

https://www.ktelargolida.gr/en/3226-2/

Online ticketing:

https://ktelbus.gr/arg/ticketweb/

The other option (more efficient but more expensive) is to rent a car in Ermioni and return it to Nafplio or Athens.
See Pop's Car rental agency in Ermioni

Good luck!

Maybe I’m missing something but it looks to me as though on weekdays you can catch an 8.30 bus from Ermioni to Kranidi and then a bus at 11.10 to Nafplio. I’ve done this trip. It was a long time ago but my memory is the times were about the same then.

A couple of points
a) the timetable shows an 11.00 o’clock bus to Athens from Kranidi and an 11.10 to Nafplio. It seems really likely to me that these are the same bus.
b) when we did it we changed at Argos and I would guess that’s still the case.

I remember it as quite a long journey winding in and out of a number of small places. A number of motorways have been built since so it may be more direct ( but less interesting in my opinion!)

Pegasus Tours out of Nafplio does day trips from Tolo (near Nafplio) to Hydra.

Your daughter could check while on Hydra if she can get a "ride" with Pegasus back to Tolo then a easy and quick bus to Nafplio.

Otherwise JoLui's post is the way to do so but it involves several transfers.

If you daughter is going with a friend or friends they could split the cost of a direct transfer with a local transfer company once she arrives at Ermioni. May be more cost effect and convenient if they can split the cost.

Thank you all for the helpful guidance! I'll report back in late-April to let you know if we are able to work out the choreography.

Sincerely, Jon
