My husband and I are planning a trip to Greece in September. We would like to travel from Hydra to Nafplio where we plan to rent a car. We would prefer not heading back to Pireus and renting a car there if we can make this connection work.. There is a ferry line from Hydra to Ermioni, but getting to Nafplio from Ermioni seems a bit challenging. Any suggestions/alternatives? I don’t want to get stranded in Ermioni without a plan.
I've done Ermioni to Nafplio by bus but not for several years. You have to go via Kranidi. Bus times from Kranidi to Nafplio are here. The site also has prices and journey times if you dig about a bit.

We got a connecting bus from Ermioni and my memory is the journey was about half an hour. The bus goes (or at least used to) from pretty much the end of the jetty the hydrofoil comes in on.
A taxi from Ermioni to Kranidi wouldn't be very expensive if necessary.
Agree with Alan. The only other option is to rent a car at Ermioni and use it to get to Nafplio. One would think there would be an easier way to get from Ermioni to Nafplio since both are relatively popular with not only tourists but locals, but alas it seems to be a bit of struggle.
Thanks to both of you for your quick replies. It appears we can make it happen.
We're renting a car in Ermioni in a couple of weeks, and dropping it off at Athens airport a couple weeks later. Using Pop's Car, recommended by Rick in his Greece travel guide.
Please share how Pops car rental works for you once you return. It certainly seems the easiest and least expensive? option. Thanks
As requested by the OP, reporting back on experience with Pop's Car. It was great and I'd recommend it to anyone who is migrating from Hydra to the Peloponnese via Ermioni. It's about a five block walk from the ferry terminal and we had to ask directions, but they were friendly and had our car ready for the price agreed to online. We rented a car for eight days and drove all over (Nafplio, Mycenae, Arcadia, Olympia, up to Delphi, then Meteora and back to Athens). They let us drop it off at the Athens airport, and even let us drop it off at our hotel since we were arriving after their office closed. Highly recommend.
