Hydra or Athens?

Hello! We will have 1 1/2 days in Athens once we return from Milos, Mykonos, Santorini, Crete, Delphi and Meteora.
We will visit the Acropolis on that 1/2 day and walk neighboring neighborhoods. We have a full day the next day. I know they are completely different but, if you had to choose how to spend your last day in Greece, would it be in Hydra or Athens?
If you think Athens, what should we do/see there? If you choose Hydra, to have enough time to enjoy it, should we return at 4:20 pm or 8:40pm?

I very much enjoyed Hydra, but I was there for 2 nights. I don't think it's worth the long ferry ride for a day trip to Hydra, especially when there's lots to see in Athens. I haven't been to Mykonos or Santorini or Crete so I can't compare them with Hydra. I also enjoyed 5 days in Athens. The National Archaeology Museum is a gem, so are the Ancient Agora and the Acropolis Museum. There's more, but those stand out in my memory.

With that short amount of time I would devote it to Athens. No sense wasting time getting to Hydra, not just getting to Piraeus but the time to get to Hydra and back.

Athens deserves a minimum of two days at the least with 3 better and more if you have the time.

To much to see in Athens for a list but my recommendations are:

Acropolis
Agora
Kerimikos Cemetery
Anafiotika
Central Markets and all side streets off Athinas St.
Monistriaki/Plaka Area
Psiri District
Changing of the Guards at Syntagma Square
New Acropolis Museum
National Archeological Museum

Lots more to see and experience in Athens. Not just the tourist sites but lots of non-tourists sites which will give you a more truer feel for Athens.

Check out Matt's Athens Guidr for even more of what to do:

Thanks for those suggestions. I already copied them down.

Can you suggest way to plan/go to these places in an itinerary?
Can I cluster some of these places in groups to visit by sections (are some closer to some than others)?

Add to the excellent list above, Benaki Museum, Jewish Museum, Greek Folk Art Museum, Byzantine Museum, and the Cycladic and Ancient Art Museum. Some of these are small and located close to each other, such as the last two. After you decide what interests you, I suggest you get a map and pinpoint what can be grouped together.
