How to take KTEL Bus from Central Athens to Rafina Port

Hello,

We would like to travel from central Athens to Rafina port on the KTEL bus.

We visited the KTEL office on Mavromataion Street in Pedion Areos, Athens.

The person working in the kiosk was not helpful.

While talking on the phone, he told us to go to Monastiraki Square to buy tickets and catch the bus.

What do we do? Anyone? Help.

Thanks,

You can catch a bus at Monastiraki, but no direct bus, and Google maps indicates a number of changes.

In short, to take the bus, you need to get to KTEL Attikis bus station, there, you can get a direct bus to Rafina and the port. There should be a bus route near the square that will take you to the bus station.

The other option would be to spring for a cab, should cost about 30 euro, your hotel might be able to help arrange it.

We have attempted to locate the "KTEL Attikus" bus station.

Apparently, before COVID, it used to operate on Mavromataion Street near the park.

As I said, we talked to two different individuals and neither person was helpful.

Yes, it is possible to take a taxi.

We want to take the bus to learn how to do it as we will likely visit Rafina Port again.

Also, KTEL's website is not useful. We have emailed them and no response.

It's a bit out of the way, but you can take the Express Bus or Metro to the airport and catch a bus to Rafina there.

Yes, there are several bus stations in Athens, some for long distance service, some operated by the local KTEL Attica. I know I have gotten confused and went to the wrong station on at least one occasion.

I would take Lee's advice, Take the Metro or bus to the Airport, and then take the direct bus from the Airport to Rafina Port. It is pretty much foolproof compared to trying to find the correct bus to the correct bus station.

Oh, it is great to have Google maps in times like this, I am afraid it has spoiled me.

Hello,

Visited the Athens Tourist Information office, located in Syntagma Square, this morning.

The person behind the booth spoke flawless English and was eager to help.

He told us that the KTEL Port Rafina bus now departs from the Nomismatokopio Station on the blue.

Because we have to be at Port Rafina by 7:30am, the Athens Metro only starts running at 5:30am, we won't be able to make it to the station in time to catch a bus that will take us to the Port.

We have decided that the five of us will hire a private van to pick us up at our frontdoor, drop us at the Port with out luggage, for the price of 55€.

Thanks for your input.

That's good news. €55 is less than what you'd pay to take the Metro to the airport followed by a bus to Rafina.

OP -- this thread is a perfect example of why inquirers should give Important Info when asking advice! IF you had only told us at the beginning that there are FIVE of you, this thread would have need only one answer! Anyone would know to tell you that hiring a vehicle was both the most convenient AND very affordable. Good luck on your "troop movement" !

The cost for the KTEL bus from Athens to Rafina Port, even for five persons, is half the price of a private van.

In these tough economic times, it would still make more sense to use the public transit, and get a glimpse of what life is like for the average Greek.

Thanks to the original poster for the update. I’ve done this trip a couple of times from Aeros Park and hadn’t heard the route has changed. I certainly wouldn’t have guessed the bus now goes from Nomismatokopio!

Hope you’re surviving the heat OK and having a good trip.
