What is the best way to get tickets to the different sites and museums in Athens? My wife and I will be visiting in early October and we are looking into how and when to puchase tickets.

Avoid any other pass or combo ticket offers available online. They might look tempting, but they will charge you for unnecessary options, or even for things that are actually free on the official websites.
Since the Acropolis gets the most visitors, it uses a date and time slot entry system. It is best to buy your tickets a week in advance if you want to visit at a specific date and time.
For all other sites and museums, this is not necessary.
