We are going on a cruise via HAL in October. We arrive the evening prior to the cruise. Are some hotels within walking distance from the cruise ports or will we need to arrange additional transportation to arrive at the particular cruise loading area?
Please tell us which cruise port in Greece you'll be at. And also consider just looking for hotels with a free shuttle to the cruise port. I've found that, even if my hotel appears to be within walking distance, hauling my luggage to join the sometimes exceedingly long cruise check in process is not my favorite way to start a cruise.
The Cruise Critic website has a subforum for Greek ports. There are threads for precruise hotels in Athens, assuming you are embarking at one of the cruise terminals at Piraeus.
Assuming you are talking about the port of Piraeus, there are 2 cruise terminals located here:

The closest hotels are mainly around a 30 minute walk towards the ferries port.
Given that “within walking distance” can be a subjective notion, if it's too far plan to take a taxi.
