Hotel suggestions in Heraklion, Rethmnon, and Chania

We are walkers and like to have hotels in central areas. Got any suggestions for these 3 cities please? Going in June 2025.

From our September/October 2019 trip, Hotel Kastro in Iraklio (aka Heraklion), and Elia Palatino hotel in Hania (aka Chania).

In Iraklio, we were close to the exceptional archaeological museum, and to restaurants and a nice plaza and park area. In Hania, we were right on the harbor waterfront, overlooking the harbor and the Venetian lighthouse. The location/setting was outstanding, although a disco with a loud, thumping bass made noise well into the night. It might be worth inquiring if that situation still exists, before booking.

We didn’t visit Rethymno.

For a lively street yet quieter at night (no clubs), look just one street up from harbour to West - Theotokoupoulu Street... no-cars flagstone lane leading up from Seafront park, lined with pensions, small hotels, apts ... my fave is Hotel Palazzo (actually a modernized Venetion Mansiion w 12 rooms -- 3-4 have front balconies, rrest have use of roof terrace). The Pensions don't serve breakfast but have kitchenettrd or nooks w fridges & coffemakers, plus many cafes on street offer breakfasts. Casa Veneta, Pension Nora, Studios Hera, Iason Studios, Anemone Apts, Casa di Pietra, all family-owned/run. A lovely street to stay on...

I Heraklion, I've several times stayed at midprice HOTEL KRONOS, on the promenade directly on sea (front balconies seaview); very convenient short stroll along seafront to the causeway to massive fortezza, and the traffic circle there, ringed by inviting "meza" cafes and seafood tavernas. Kronos also short walk to the stunning Heraklion Arch. museum full of Minoan Treasures.. and you can also walk down to ferry pier which has the local busses (30 mins) to Knossos Ruins. To avoid crowds there (frrom cruise ships) many people choose to see Museum in AM then do Knossos after 2 or 3, when cruisers leave. PS: ports like these also make us feel sorry for those who chose cruises... as we sit at seaside cafes, enjoying sunset before leisurely evening dining... they're already hustled back on board, locked into interior dining rooms.

Here are a few images of Theo Street Janet mentioned. Lots of small hotels there and indeed it is more quiet at night than the waterfront areas.

We have also stayed at Kronos in Heraklion several times.
