What is there to do at Cape Sounion.. I know the temple is there.

From the port of Lavrio it is possible to go by daily ferry to Kea in the Cyclades (1 hour ride), which is not possible from the port of Piraeus.
Weekly ferries also serve some islands in the North Aegean Sea such as Agios Efstratios and Limnos as well as other islands in the Cyclades.
Due to its proximity to Athens Cape Sounion is more of a day trip destination than a long stay. Not sure many people have stayed there overnight.
Within driving distance there is the Archaeological site of Thorikos (north of Lavrio)

We stayed at the Aegeon Beach Hotel and really liked it. We were traveling for 6 weeks in Greece and headed first to Sounio, since it was fairly close to Athens but quiet and with a beach - perfect place e to recover from jet lag before we began our more serious travels., The hotel is modern, good a/c, parking, a generous buffet breakfast with fabulous views of the Temple of Poseidon. The beach is sandy (brown sand not white), with very gentle waves; lots of lounge chairs. There are also two restaurants I(quite good with basic standard Greek fare, especially seafood) within walking distance. To do? Hike up to the Temple, swim and do very little though, one day, we did venture to the National Park (which is huge) and to the town of Lavrio. We were the only American guests (in September). Do go - it's lovely!
