Hotel Recommendations in Athens

We will be traveling to Athens in October and are looking for hotel recommendations. If you have stayed someplace that you would recommend, I would love to hear it. There are just two of us traveling. Location and clean facility is important. Thanks in advance.

We recommend the location south of the Acropolis. Walking distance to all the sites, restaurants, etc. We recently stayed at Hotel Hera on our RS Tour. Excellent breakfast, clean facility. Roof top restaurant with view of the Acropolis. Our favorite restaurant was Manh Manh, 5 mins. from the hotel.

We liked our stay at the Hotel Philippos. Great location, pleasant breakfast area, quiet residential street, nice folks.

I stayed at both the Acropolis Select and the Hera this year. Both are used by the RS tours. I liked the Hera a little better. Both are fine and a good location (they are a block from each other) near the metro, good restaurants, walking distance to the Acropolis Museum, the Acropolis, and more.

A budget would help make recommendations and just what you are looking for as far as comfort, facilities, breakfast included, etc.

We always stay at the Attalos Hotel on Athinas St., one of the best budget friendly accommodations in Athens. Clean, safe, central location, superb rooftop bar/garden with outstanding views of the Acropolis and all of Athens. Very close to Monistiraki Square, Central Markets and just about everything one goes to Athens for.

There are many other very good options in Athens in the Plaka, Monistiraki, Syntagma Square districts that would be perfect but more info from you will help.

Bear in mind October is off season so prices will be lower so you'll get more bang for your buck with lower prices giving you even more options on where to stay.

I stayed at Herodian for my last night in Greece. Nice hotel, very clean, bedrooms not huge and rather stark modern furnishings, nice bathrooms, good restaurant, splendid breakfast. Close to everything - Plaka, Acropolis and the A. Museum, metro etc.

For a real budget hotel, I stayed at Hotel Byron. Huge bedroom, furniture was pretty basic but bed was comfortable. I had a balcony overlooking one of the main streets in Plaka and good view of the Acropolis. Very clean as well and good, quiet working air/con. Breakfast was not very exciting, so took advantage of a row of nice restaurants 5 mins away by the Acropolis metro.

Only caveat was the bathroom. Byron is an older building and bathroom has been shoehorned into a corner of the room, it is very small. The shower is small and with no shower curtain, I managed not to flood the bathroom whenever I had a shower- but it does the job, there was always hot water and fresh towels. Really ugly tiles in the bathroom, but then how much time do you spend in there!

Hello,

If you are staying in Athens then the best place to be is in Plaka! Plaka is the most beautiful and best-preserved district in Athens. Built on the slopes of Acropolis Hill, Plaka remains under the shadow of this trademark of Athens. Neoclassical houses, bougainvilleas hanging from the windows, pebbled narrow streets, small local shops, taverns and bars create an amazing scenery to walk around, explore a large part of Athens historical centre and feel the aura of old Athens in a neighbourhood that has kept its traditional character and can make you feel like being on an island. You may check online booking platforms to get better deals. Have also in mind that sometimes you might get good deals if you search on site.

We stayed at the Herodion a few weeks ago. Wonderful breakfast, helpful staff, excellent location. Close enough to the Plaka without dealing with the noise. If you request a few of the Acropolis bear in mind there is an elementary school beside the Herodion that you will see and will hear the school kids while school is in session. I was upgraded to a superior room with balcony overlooking the Acropolis in the 3rd floor. Asked to change my room to a quieter area because of the noise from the school. Was much happier in the quieter room. The Herodion has a very nice rooftop area where you can relax and have a few drinks with a view of the Acropolis. I found the beds to be extremely hard though but all in all had a great stay.

I, too, stayed at the Hera Hotel. I enjoyed my stay very much. My room was small, but well appointed, and the French door/windows opened to a Juliet balcony making it seem expansive, and allowed this New Englander a fresh, cool breeze in March. I liked the rooftop Peacock Restaurant so much that I went twice, as the meal was delicious and the view of the Acropolis at night was magical.

I just returned from Athens on Tuesday. I have stayed at Acropolis Museum Boutique Hotel.

48 Syngrou Avenue, Acropolis, Athens 11742, Greece Telephone: +30 210 9249050, Fax: +30 210 9249052

I have stayed there 3 times (twice this year) and love it. 10 minute walk to Acropolis loop and hop on hop off buses or Syntagma square. Excellent staff. Large breakfast including eggs and fantastic yogurt. Call directly for better room rates. Lots of restaurants close by as well as museums. Very walkable city and safe (except for drivers--careful crossing streets)

We stayed at the Herodion twice a couple of years ago, once in the front facing the street and once in the back facing the school and Acropolis. We liked both rooms, appreciated the Acropolis view and didn't mind the school. It's a good hotel with fine breakfast buffet, nice lobby bar, and nice rooftop restaurant and bar. Convenient on the south side of the Acropolis close to the museum, subway, and lots of dining options. I understand that the Philipos is a sister property.
