The rooms seem upgraded a bit since we last stayed there.

Kronos is a good choice for Heraklion. Sea view rooms are great.

Hera studios Chania are in a good location on Theotakopolou street. Two minute walk to the harbour but quiet at night for sleeping.

In Matala, IMO, the hotels facing directly on the beach are crammed tightly together, most rooms no view, kinda basic. I stayed several times just back from the beach about 200 yards , at charming Dimitris Villa (now re-named Dimitris Resort, probably to attract UK, but it's the same place) - https://www.matala.gr/en/dimitris-resort/ - attractively landscaped with pool, also restaurant. Family-owned, father owns butcher shop in nearby town, and u can imagine, food is nice...also BBQ night for guests. Vine-covered colonnade, view of mountains. I still remember the kindness of owners; example - on my 2nd visit, we were going next to CHania but had no reservations, this was early 2000s, internet not useful yet ... hotel woman sat on phone, calling hotels, asking in Greek, till she found the right place for us... no charge. This place exemplifies "philoxenia."

BTW, from your list of places, I think I might have been the one suggesting hotels for you... am I right? Glad u were able to re-plan that celebration trip after world-wide trip stoppage! The Covid thing ruined the entire last 1 1/2 years of my Grandson's college experience -- your daughter was lucky she almost got thru before shut-down.

Stan - thank you for the Naxos studio link - that was exactly what i was looking for!
Janet - Yes! You were the one who suggested the original hotel stays but unfortunately I lost some of my notes and access to my old email so I was having trouble recreating the trip. Thank you both so much for the reply and information we are looking forward to the trip and I do believe my daughter graduated "just in time" unfortunately classes just behind her lost so many more experiences.
