After a week cruise, we're looking for a one or two night stay near the Archaeological Museum in Athens. Not really interested in seeing anything else, as we all have already visited several times before and will be ready to head home! And, if you have a recommendation...is the area fairly safe? Thanks so much!.
6 mins walk away,

The area is safe and very lively, though you might not enjoy walking down some of the small side streets around Omonia Square in the middle of the night. But I assume that’s not what you’ll be doing anyway.
Another suggestion not far from the National Archaeological Museum:
Several bus and trolley lines stop right in front of the museum, which puts you less than 15 minutes away from plaka and Syntagma anyway. The Exarchia neighborhood, behind the museum, might appeal to you if you like the counterculture vibe, street art, and bars packed until late at night.
We sometimes stay in the Victory Inn if we want to be in that area. It’s a few minutes from the Museum and, in the opposite direction, a few minutes from Fokionos Negri: a pedestrianised area with a lot of good restaurants and cafes.

The hotel is nothing special but is comfortable and clean and the people are friendly.
In 2022 we stayed at the Hotel Hera for a few days before our Rick Steves tour because it was the meeting point for the tour. The location was excellent. It was near a metro stop and just a few minutes walk from the Acropolis. The rooftop bar had a view of the Parthenon. Excellent service, too.
AthenWas Hotel.
500 feet from the museum entrance on a pedestrian street. Their acropolis view rooms are spectacular. The contemporary vibe is not our scene but the hotel is perfect for convenience and location.
Hera & AthensWas are nowhere near the national archaeological museum, you are thinking of the Acropolis museum :)
I suppose I need to return to Athens to get my bearings. . .
