Hotel Near ATH for one night

The Sofitel right across the road from the airport is the most convenient, though expensive. We stayed there the night before an early flight like yours and it was fine. There's a restaurant for dinner if you want to just stay there and go to bed early.

Other places nearby are less expensive and/or more charming, but none as close to the airport. It's literally about a three-minute walk from the Sofitel lobby to the check-in counters.

You might look at the Hotel Avra in Rafina. They have a free shuttle bus which takes about 25 minutes, is reliable and runs from 3 in the morning.

The advantage over staying at the airport is you would have an evening in Rafina. It’s nothing special but quite a nice little port town with a lively Greek atmosphere and a number of pleasant restaurants.

JNV, Avra Hotel is a great suggestion! There are hotels that are nearer, and may have a shuttle, but not one that gets you to the airport early enough. This answers that problem ... AND I assume that if you book this hotel, even if you are in central athens, if you get to the Airport (via Xbus or Metro), that free shuttle will take you TO Avra. In hot weather, you could even walk to the beach, within sight, for a dip before dinner.

thanks for the replies I decided to stay at Sofitel since its right there. If anything we'll take train to city when we arrive to have a few hours of stretching our legs.
